Apple iPad jumps to 128GB, starting at $799
It's still the fourth-generation device, but beefier. A cellular-enabled version of the higher-capacity iPad costs $929.

The updated iPad represents a minor update to a device that already got a slight overhaul late last year. Many expect Apple to unveil a new iPad with more significant changes in the coming months.
The 128GB iPad has all of the same features as before, including a 9.7-inch Retina Display, a FaceTime HD camera, and an A6X processor.
Apple is hoping the higher-capacity iPad will be better suited for the business world. Over the past few years, the company has made a concerted push to get into companies for professional use.
The press release pointed out the potential appeal of the higher storage volume to businesses that traffic in data-intensive materials such as 3D CAD files, X-rays, film edits, music tracks, and project blueprints.
While Apple's share in the tablet market remains dominant, the company is starting to see increasing competition from lower-priced devices such as Amazon's Kindle Fire HD and Google's Nexus 7 tablets. In response, the company late last year unveiled the iPad Mini.

I hate to say it, but you've got to get in the mind of an executive.
They don't know how much space they need, they want the most.
They are only using the device to run reports and using AirPlay to show those reports on a big screen TV in the office room - but they automatically buy the most expensive version.
This is a good move by Apple to take the free money. It's not so much a move into the business market, as recognition businesses are already buying the device - you need the high end choice for the executive to purchase.
With VShare alive stronger than Installous, and 6.1 being jailbroken this could be a seriously killer device for the traveling business man, or media-centric *****.
The public has spoken and memory cards are just outdated technology that people buying tablets don't care about. Who wants to travel and keep track of memory cards anyways?
If you're just using it to store movies and music it would work perfectly, unless you have a link showing there is some kind of problem using an SD card? Didn't think so. In fact, you can stream any of that content from an SD card without any problems at all.
Leave it to an Apple fanboy to try and claim that having fixed flash memory is better than having an expansion slot.
For the kind of price they're charging for these iPads, I would WAY rather have an Ultrabook Convertible running Windows 8 Pro. Dell and Lenovo both make great ultra books that would kick an iPad.
This GeeBees?
I don't think you understand keano's statement. I don't think he is condemning the iPad as a whole, simply this particular model. He has a good point to, cost vs performance this would be a horrible iPad for a corporate setting. 16-32 gig is more than efficient for these purposes. 128 gig, only reason for that is to say you have it, they are just selling you a big impressive number because you've been programmed as a consumer to want the big numbers.
Your swear to god is for nothing.
What do expect them to do, never update their products? And do you always have to have the latest model? The iPad 3 isn't even a year old. Until the software no longer supports it you should be fine. I know people still happily using their 1st gen iPads.
This is just a new capacity. It's identical in every other respect. It doesn't count as a 'new' product.
my point is you woud want to be out of your mind to buy an ipad for this price when you can get an air, simple as that, the air is all round easier for use.
as for people needing an ipad? what scenario could you "need" an ipad over an air?
win convertible is too slow and cumbersome.
Plus, you don't have to buy the 128GB iPad, I don't know if people realize this, but you can do whatever the **** you want.
You are 100% correct.
As an example I am still using my first iPhone, 3GS 32GB, bought new when they came out. It runs the latest iOS, also iWork without any issues along with other productivity apps as well. Though the iPhone 5 has been out my 3GS performs just the same as when I bought it new. Upgrading for the sake of upgrading is a money pit. When this 3GS ceases to fulfill my needs, or quits working that is when I will upgrade.
Question, do you folks purchase a new car every year, a new home when the newer models arrive, with each upgrade a new TV, new power hand tools with each improvement? The list goes on.
I think his poke at Apple went right over your head.
m$ sueface needs more space. m$ sueface is a joke.
I think your keyboard is broken again...
The surface is pretty damn amazing. I have one.
Sincerely,
"My friends refer to me as "the apple fanboy""
I am neither fanboy or hater; Apple sells whatever they want at prices that almost seem arbitrary because the profit margins are staggering.
2) An SD card of ANY variety isn't as fast as built-in flash storage.
My only complaint is with Apple's pricing. It's about time they drop the differences to $50 instead of $100. Flash memory is pretty cheap, and we all know it.
Now I have no product loyalty, to anyone. I purchase what I think is the most valuable product based on my forecasted usage and timeframe of ownership.
And all I can say is... they're not going to win me over with this type of pricing, I dare ask who would ever convert at these price points? I find it appalling. Then again perhaps that's just a result of having no OEM loyalty.
I see iPad's used in hospitals, by lawyers, and contractors doing construction. I have yet to hear anyone say they prefer a tablet with memory cards and so far all tablets with memory cards are getting crushed by the iPad in sales head to head. The people have spoken with their wallets and so far memory card tablets aren't selling very well.
So just because you can't see the usefulness of it means that no one else should use it?
Apple has been declining for years, they're now just showing us flashy things to try to gather the crowds, I can't wait to see what the next innovative thing they come out with (oh right.... they probably won't, they focus on their ipads and iphones now...)
Good luck apple, while other companies are skyrocketing past you in leaps and bounds, your're still stuck in the caveman era with simple products and non-budget friendly prices.
Ding, ding ding! Dinner's ready! Go get it!
Note: I have nothing agains those who are less fortunate. I'm just stating the obvious.
Oh, and what company is skyrocketing past Apple by leaps and bounds? ExxonMobil? SameScum doesn't even count if you only count the very few decent/good products they have. Message boards all over the net are filled with complaints about their bottom-feeding Android phones. But they count, right?
I am in the same boat as you though - so much cloud storage now days you shouldn't need this much space. The price-tag is ridiculous
Mitt Romney-elitist-pinky-out-psycho get out of here. Go spray your economic apartheid hatred somewhere else.
You believe everything you hear? Bet you think strippers actually like you too...
And btw... no complaints here. Loved my Samsung Nexus since day 1.
"Oh, and what company is skyrocketing past Apple by leaps and bounds? ExxonMobil? "
I agree with most of your post. But ExxonMobil is hardly "skyrocketing" past Apple. With the recent value of stock dropping only because of Wall Street projections (Apple increased sales and profit above last year), Apple has slipped to 2nd in the world, behind E-M by about $4b, which is pretty close to 1%.
And then go back to remove all the offending copies.
However, I disagree that Apple is falling because their products are simple. Rather, people are loving them because they are that easy to pick up and learn. Anyone can create a product. Not many can design it in a way that is simple and intuitive to use. And I think that is something Apple is not getting enough credit for.
m$ thinks ipad pricing good enough for them. m$ can't beat google and amazon at all.
Have you missed that Apple has lost 35% of its value in the last four months? That decline surpasses the entire value of all but three companies in the S & P 500 and is larger than the GDP of more than 140 countries.
Perhaps the less fortunate simply see no value in paying nearly $800 for a tablet that has no real innovative new features. These products are obviously status symbols, designed to make ppl appear not to be "bottom-feeders".
I guess you're a relative of "The_Law" now that your using those terms.
Use a little common sense when transferring files....problem solved....
Paranoid much?
More and more users daily are realizing that the competitor options are more lucrative. Once Windows 8 Pro devices catch on its back to the niche market you go Apple.
ANY company, no matter what they make, has to make a profit, and as such they will only make what they 'think' they can sell.
How many times have you gone into a coffee shop, supermarket or some other retail place and seen an item that is 'almost' - but not totally - what you want, and the retailer (Curry's/PC World, in my case) tells you that they don't sell the actual item you want, and you can't order one either.
They then say try and get it off the internet.
It's like they don't want your money, unless you actually want to buy what they ARE selling.
Even if you DO want buy what they are selling, you then have a hard job trying to get good customer service or technical support AFTER you have spent your money.
And their product knowledge (of the products they ARE selling) isn't anything to write home about either!
This above mentioned company (and other tech companies) REALLY need to train their 'sales' staff a LOT better.
I and 'other customers' have to spend too much time asking simple questions that these people really ought to know the answer to. And I only have to ask the questions because this company's 'web details' too often contradicts the display cards in store.
I even sometimes find myself 'trying' to advise 'other customers' when the so called 'expert' has gone off somewhere to find an answer to a question that he ought to be able to answer anyway!
128GB is very welcome. 256GB would be AWESOME. Now to dream about an ARD update so I can use ARD on my iPad at home across VPN to administer office computers.
Wouldn't 64GB suffice?
Also, wouldn't be downloading music either.
The pricing is getting a little ridiculous. Even for Apple's standards
What are they smoking?
Sure...
So we're talking about a tablet with 128 GB of storage, 4G connectivity, and all-day battery life?
Besides, $930 still isn't the same as $1000.
Toys, or food - you choose.
Someone (here in the UK) said on local radio or tv - or it could have been on the net - that jobs/people were more important than the environment - well without a clean environment you won't have either!
Tablets ~were~ nice because they gave access to e-mail on your couch without the need to boot up, or be plugged in constantly (laptop). Windows 8 boot up speed is next to nothing at this point. Most are full touch screen, and run legacy windows apps. Surface Pro will have an active digitizer as well.
Now when i travel i like it that the plane or train has a First Class section. I dont want to see the airplane with only Coach seats.
The Surface pro will be the first class of tablet computing.
