It's been a mismanaged ride

RIP Winamp: iconic media player to be discontinued December 20th, 2013

After 15 years of rocking out to ripped MP3s, the team behind Winamp has unceremoniously announced that the iconic MP3 player, which defined the space for much of its 15 year life span, will be discontinued in exactly one month on December 20th, 2013. Winamp, which was once the leader in the space, has fallen a bit to the wayside recently due to poor management, increased competition from the likes of iTunes by Apple, and the rise of the iPod and smartphones.

Winamp 5.66 will forever remain the final version of the software, which will remain available to download until that December 20th date. After that, Winamp will become a memory – and all of this nothing more than a dream.

Poor one out for our good buddy Winamp. Early 2000?s Brian will miss you dearly.
